Fitting Instructions for CLOC 2000 Series Panel Fasteners

Introduction:

CLOC 2000 series panel fasteners are a revolutionary, 21st century solution to all the panel fastener headaches. These lightweight, adjustable, quarter turn fasteners are suitable for panels 1.00mm to 10.00mm thick.

No more charts, no more working out grip lengths, no more purchasing different length fasteners for different thickness panels, no more head scratching. One fastener, one receptacle!

Now that you’ve purchased some, here’s how to fit them:

We’re using some scrap bits of aluminium and the ring handle head CLOC fastener to show you this process. The process is the same for the flush fitting cross head CLOC as well. Some steps maybe slightly different for your own application depending on what material and its thickness you’re using plus any access restrictions to said panel. This guide should give you a good enough idea though. If you have any questions, please contact us for help.

Tools required:

  • Drill
  • 1/8″ drill bit
  • 5/16″ drill bit
  • Hammer
  • Centre punch
  • Rivet gun
  • Countersink drill bit
  • Steel rule (or some form of measuring stick)
  • 1/8″ (3.2mm) countersunk rivets suitable for your panel thickness
  • Scribe or pen to mark with

Step 1:

Once you have worked out where you require the fastener to be, if possible, clamp the panels together. Cleco side grip clamps are perfect for this job – what are Cleco side grips? Mark where you require the centre hole to be and centre punch for this hole. Now pilot drill and follow with a 5/16″ drill bit. This hole will be the hole for the main fastener to pass through.

Step 2:

Pass the fastener through both panels and into the receptacle which can be held on to the underside of the inner panel by hand. A quarter turn will engage the fastener into the receptacle. Now turn the fastener head clockwise (whilst holding the receptacle in place) to tighten the fastener into the receptacle and thus bringing the panels together and tight.

Step 3:

Rotate receptacle until mounting holes are at your preferred orientation. They can be fixed through 360 degrees. Now mark mounting hole centres. Note: if the rear of this panel is not accessible, you will need to mark the mounting hole centres from the front of this panel. For your reference; the mounting hole centres are 19mm and the mounting hole centre to main fastener hole centre is 9.5mm. As with all jobs like this, measure twice, drill once! Once marked, centre punch and drill receptacle mounting holes with 1/8″ (3.2mm) drill bit for your rivets.

Step 4:

You should now have 3 holes drilled, one 5/16″ fastener hole and two 1/8″ rivet holes. Now countersink the front face of the two 1/8″ rivet holes so the panels sit flush together when everything is assembled.

Step 5:

Rivet receptacle to the rear of the inner panel. 1/8″ Cleco pins are a very handy tool to use here if you have any. The Cleco holds the two panels together so you can rivet the one hole – what are Cleco’s?

Step 6:

Now secure the main fastener to the outer panel using the small segmented washer. This washer is placed over the fastener body and slid down to the base to prevent the fastener falling out when released. This can sometimes be tricky to fit, so use something hollow of the correct diameter to push the washer on with, a piece of tube or a socket for example.

Step 7:

Overlap both panels and with a quarter turn, engage the fastener into the receptacle. Now tighten the two panels together by turning the fastener clockwise.

Step 8:

With the panels tight and assembled, remove the small locking pin from the rear of the receptacle and make sure the fastener is locked in position. THIS LAST STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT! Failure to do so will mean the fastener is not locked in position and can loosen and cause the panels to come apart.
